Users browse schedules from any available channels using their web browser or mobile phone and choose the programmes they want to record
Recording data is transmitted to their set-top box over-the-air or through the device’s internet connection.
Users can also send recording instructions by email or text message.
SlipStream’s RemoteRecord lets users select programmes to record from their mobile or web browser and have them added to their set-top box’s schedule of recordings. Users can also browse past schedules and request the recording of any future repeat transmission. The service provides series linking and can use SlipStream’s SmartSearch technology to suggest other programmes the user may be interested in, based on their past recording habits.
SlipStream’s forthcoming intelligent SMS and email add-ons allow users to send simple messages to the service to add or remove recordings, e.g. “Record Eastenders tomorrow” or “Record all Doctor Who for two weeks”.
The service can be integrated at a broadcaster or platform level, with the application provided online to web and mobile clients. For STBs, the application can be resident on the STB middleware, transmitted over the broadcast stream or downloaded over the return path. The service takes advantage of devices which feature a return path but also has the capability to deliver functions and data to legacy devices with no return path by incorporating a highly-compressed data-stream with the broadcast stream. Viewers with legacy STBs can use the web or a mobile phone to schedule and manage recordings, the results of which are then transmitted to their STB.
RemoteRecord can be provided as part of an overall customer-branded SlipStream client, be presented as an API for integration with existing client and middleware solutions, or included as part of a complete bespoke client development. SlipStream can also be integrated with existing customer databases, CRM systems and Business Intelligence tools.
