Integration of social interaction around programme content.
Allows sharing of ratings, recommendations and personal content with the world at large.
Brings social networking to the TV screen.
SlipStream’s Social Media features bring together all a user’s content sources – broadcast, on-demand, IPTV and personal – with their social networks to create seamless social experiences around programme content.
SlipStream provides two-way social interaction around programme content, integrating recommendations, ratings, discussions and user-generated content (blogs, photosets etc.) with programme content and within programme timelines.
So if a viewer wants to find all soaps on in the afternoon across all channels, they just specify the search criteria and save the search – knowing that it will be kept constantly updated for them. They can even specify that all programmes in a search be automatically recorded.
Social Networking can be integrated at a broadcaster or platform level, with applications provided online to web and mobile clients. For STBs, applications can be resident on the STB middleware, transmitted over the broadcast stream or downloaded over the return path. The service takes advantage of devices which feature a return path but also has the capability to deliver some social functions to legacy devices with no return path by incorporating a highly-compressed data-stream with the broadcast stream. Viewers with legacy STBs can use the web or a mobile phone to interact with the wider world, with their actions and responses then being transmitted to their STB.
Social network integration can be provided as part of an overall customer-branded SlipStream client, be presented as an API for integration with existing client and middleware solutions, or included as part of a complete bespoke client development. SlipStream can also be integrated with existing customer databases, CRM systems and Business Intelligence tools.
